GOG makes some of your Steam games DRM-free

GOG ConnectDigital distribution service GOG continues to be awesome!*  This week the purveyor of DRM-free games and movies announced GOG Connect, a new service that connects to your Steam library and adds any eligible games to your GOG library so that you can play them DRM-free.

Yep, buying the game once was enough.  If you own one of 23 eligible titles including FTL, Braid, Twine, The Witcher, and Bit.Trip Runner on Steam, you can add them to your GOG library free-of-charge.

The current crop of eligible games will only be available to import into your GOG library for the next couple of days.

“While GOG Connect will stick around, the available games will come and go,” said GOG in its announcement.  “These are limited-time offers made possible by participating developers and publishers, so stay tuned as we bring new titles on board in the future (and grab your copies before they go away)!”

Which games are available to import and how long they’ll be available for will vary from game to game and is dependent on the deals GOG works out with its various partners so keep an eye on the GOG Connect page to stay abreast of your options.

You can also review the GOG Connect FAQ to learn the answers to your most burning questions about the service such as:

-Do you get to keep the games you import into your GOG library forever?  (Yes, although if you refund it or delete it from your Steam library, GOG reserves the right to remove it from your GOG library too)

-Do you get to keep your Steam games?  (Yes, importing a game into your GOG library does not remove it from your Steam library.)

-Can you use your Steam save files?  (Depends on the game but typically yes, unless it’s a Steam cloud save.)

-Do you get an extra key if you already own the game in both libraries?  (No, you greedy little gamer!)

*Unless you simply can’t forgive it for a dumb PR stunt from over five years ago that it immediately apologized for and never did again.
